QIKcap studies
We tested the worst case.
Two independent in vitro studies evaluated QIKcap's microbial reduction on needleless connectors, using quantitative suspension methods with an organic soil load to simulate heavy clinical contamination.
QIKcap vs. IPA caps and scrubs alone (in vitro)
Pilot study, separate from the labeled result: with blood on the connector, a CHG/IPA scrub plus the 10-second QIKcap cycle measured a 4.95-log reduction of S. aureus, compared with 1.92 to 2.79 log for the cap and scrub arms. The FDA labeling reports a 4-log reduction under its own test conditions.
Six organisms in serum (statistically tested): CHG/IPA + QIKcap was significantly better than either scrub alone. Mean log reductions:

Chart: Montana State University Center for Biofilm Engineering, pilot study, May 2026. S. aureus ATCC 6538 on needleless connectors challenged with bovine whole blood; 3 connectors per arm; descriptive results without statistical testing. The IPA cap arm was wiped with an IPA pad for 8 s before the cap was applied. Six-organism results: CBE statistical report, Sept. 2025, organisms in 100% bovine serum, model-estimated pooled means including two fungal species; CHG/IPA + QIKcap was significantly better than either scrub alone (Tukey, p < 0.05). Laboratory results. Per FDA labeling, the device has not shown a significant reduction in fungal organisms, and a correlation to clinical infection-related outcomes has not been established.
